LOCAL SKATERS ACHIEVE AMAZING RESULTS AT SASK SKATE COMPETITION
posted Oct 7, 2024, 10:39 AM
On October 5-6 Shellbrook saw 2 local skaters in Regina reaching big results at the Sask Skate Competition. Ashlyn Schmitz, who is now partnered with Rayne Eberl from Regina and trains in Regina in the Senior Pairs category, achieved over and above the Qualifying Minimum Score (QMS) of 38 at 2 competitions so far this year. The most recent was at Sask Skate where there Technical Element Score (TES) was 46.70.
Julia Shindle, who skates Singles in the Pre-Novice category, fulfilled her duty of reaching a TES of 23.61. The Qualifying Minimum Score for Pre-Novice Women is 22. Julia ended up in 9 spot after the short program after popping a much needed element at the beginning of it. She was able to let it go and completed the rest of the program flawlessly. Going in to the Freeskate program on Sunday, her goals were specific about what she wanted to accomplish, and even though she focused only on those goals, she attained the QMS at the same time. She placed 4th in the free program and ended up in 7th place overall. On top of the comeback victory, she was the only Saskatchewan skater in the Pre-Novice Women event to achieve the QMS at this competition.
The TES can only be achieved in the Free Program and is necessary to qualify for Challenge or Skate Canada Trophy. Challenge (for Junior and Senior levels) takes place in Winnipeg November 28-December 1. Skate Canada Trophy (for Pre-Novice and Novice levels) is in Edmonton February 6-9, 2025.
Congratulations on meeting the QMS skaters! Your hard work and dedication to goals paid off!
